Revisiting some unpublished photos from 3 years ago at the Indian wedding. The then crying bride is now a happy mother of a cute baby girl.

Handball

Walking for a couple of hours in the city of Călărași I was in need to use a bathroom and, surprisingly, no one was to be found in the city's largest park. Fortunately, a handball mach was taking place in a sports hall nearby and the access was free. Problem solved! Bonus: taking some sport photos.

Weirdo

I am reposting this picture, since the subject became recently a kind of international celebrity. The photo was made a couple of years ago, in May 2012, when I was in Vienna for the Libre Graphics Meeting conference and going out for some beer and schnitzel we passed by the Volkstheater where the Amadeus Austrian Music Awards happened. I could stay only a few minutes and then rejoined the group.

Book launch

Last summer I posted a bunch of photos from Buzau Mountains, the so-called "Luana Land". Now the guide from that trip, Diana Gavrila, launched a book about the region, its history, traditions and legends, called "Enigme din trecutul indepartat in Muntii Buzaului" ("Enigmas from the far past in Buzau Mountains", expanding the stories I touched briefly in my post (all heard from her) and more.

Cârța reloaded

After a hurried visit a few months ago, I had the opportunity to re-visit the ruins of the Cârță Cistercian monastery, for a deeper research and some Wikipedia photos.
I was impressed to see how trusty and open the people there are: the monastery is locked, so a neighbour just gave me the key so our small group was allowed to roam free inside the ~700 years old historical monument, we had only to give it back when done. I guess we look trusty.

Transfagarasan

After enjoying a few weeks before Transalpina, which is the highest road in Romania, next in line was Transfăgărășan, which, according to some is the most amazing road in the world. It was not my first time here, I crossed it once before, but that happened in a rainy and cloudy day when I was on foot, on a mountain trip.

Garcea vs. Tuzgureanu

Both Garcea and Tuzgureanu are comedic stereotypes of the Romanian policemen as seen by a couple of local comedy shows and from their look, those guys seen at a St. Mary fair happening near some village are well fit for the role.

Village encounters

I don't know of which kind those encounters are, but you can meet a mix of varied things on the roads of a Romanian village, some more unexpected than the others.

Sausages

The seller was shouting "nu dați banii pe prostii, luați cîrnați pentru copii" which translated from Romanian to English is something along the lines of "don't throw your money away of craps, buy sausages for your children", but with rhyme. I was knowing it with "candies" instead of "sausages".

You can see from the direction of the shadow, it was late afternoon, still it was a very hot summer day and every spot of shadow was inviting to laziness

Oltenian bride

It seems like the wedding photographers in Târgu Jiu have as one of the favorite places for their "artistic" session the walking area in the center of the city, perhaps they are bored by the cliche of using Brâncuși's Kiss Gate.

Transalpina

Also known as the king's road or the devil's path, Transalpina is a road crossing the Carpathian mountains, famous for being the highest in the country, it reaches 2145 meters above sea level. After it was re-opened a couple of years ago, it became a popular touristic attraction.

Fishermen

When I saw this fishing boat on the Black Sea it reminded me of another fishing boat I encountered in my Indian travel half a year ago: two fishing boats, two fishermen encampments, worlds apart still the same trade.

A trip to fortified churches in Transylvania

I had the opportunity for a trip to medieval fortified churches in the county of Sibiu in Transilvania, those are built by Germans around the XIII century and preserved in various states, from ruins to fully functional. The first to visit was Cisnădie, which is well preserved and functional, being located in the middle of the city with the same name:

Then Cârța, a spectacular ruin in a small village, probably the first Gothic building from this region:

Dealu Frumos was hard to photograph being under restoration works and covered with scaffolds:

Hosman is a larger complex and next to it has a large cemetery:

Slimnic is very large and also very damaged by time and hostile forces:

Apparently small on the outside, Valea Viilor has plenty of things inside waiting to be discovered:

The last visited, and probably the most complex, was Biertan:
